We make an extra effort to be sure that all members of your family are protected—including the four-legged ones.
#1: Don’t Waste Your Money on Dog Urine Burn Potions and Remedies
One of the biggest complaints we get about lawn care with dogs is urine burn. We have treated thousands of lawns over the years and we know this is a difficult problem. But we’ve also seen all different types of homemade and store-bought concoctions for treating urine burn and frankly, none of them are that effective.
Our advice is not to waste your money on these remedies.
Instead, the best thing that you can do to prevent urine burn is to avoid having your dog urinate on your lawn. We understand that sounds impossible but creating a mulched area that is specifically meant as Fido’s bathroom is an effective solution to preventing these urine burn spots.
If that’s not possible on your property, then you might want to consider encouraging your pup to do its business in the far corners of your property (as opposed to just off the patio where everyone can see it).
Also, keep in mind that a thick and healthy lawn will better stand up to urine burn than a lawn that is struggling. The healthier your turf is, the less noticeable the damage should be. But we can’t promise you won’t see urine burn. Unfortunately, it does go hand-in-hand with owning a pet.
#2: Put a Stop to Frustrating Digging Habits
As far as lawn care tips with dogs, another concern that we frequently hear has to do with digging. If you’re someone who takes great pride in your lawn, it can be very frustrating when your dog is tearing it up.
According to the Humane Society, dogs tend to dig when they’re bored. So, the best way to combat digging habits is to provide other entertainment for your pup. That might be in the form of toys or simply spending time in the yard playing with them.
Walking your dog frequently will also help to deter digging habits.
If you have a dog that is prone to digging, you might want to avoid leaving them unattended in your yard. While there is no quick solution for digging, it’s something that you have to work on with your pet (or a trainer) to correct the behavior.
As far as restoring bare spots in your lawn from your dog’s digging, aeration and overseeding will make a huge difference.
#3: Keep Your Pet Inside when the Lawn Care Company Visits
Your dog is an important part of your family and you want to help keep him or her protected. That’s why you should take special care on days that any exterior service companies will be visiting your property.
If you have a fenced-in yard, you know that the gate is going to be opened, so it’s important to keep your dog indoors.
At Oasis, we do ask that our customers keep their dogs inside on the days we come out to service the lawn.
This is for the pet’s safety while we’re treating the lawn. A dog kept inside is protected and will not have the opportunity to escape the yard and run away.
We like it when customers let us know ahead of time about their pets. It’s always helpful to know that you have a dog and that it will be inside when we arrive.
#4: Talk to Your Lawn Care Provider About Whether Their Lawn Care is Safe for Dogs
People often ask us, is lawn care safe for dogs? We understand that the safety of your pets is a top priority.
Don’t be afraid to specifically ask about the products being used by your lawn care company and whether they are safe for pets. We get this question all of the time and we are happy to answer it.
We only use products continuously and thoroughly tested by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Our granular products are safe for contact immediately after application. This includes our fertilizer, grub control, pre emergent for crabgrass, and our service feeding insect control.
Our weed control is in a liquid form and is safe, but for extra caution with your pets, we ask that you wait an hour or so to give the product time to dry before letting your pets out.
Many of us at Oasis have dogs of our own and we absolutely understand their importance to you and your family. We make an extra effort to be sure that all members of your family are protected—including the four-legged ones. In fact, we’re even careful to move dog toys that we find in the yard before applying our products.
