When it comes to your lawn, and choosing the best lawn care service, you want a solution that is safe, but that will still get you the results you desire. That’s a tall order and you may not quite be sure if it exists.

Likely, you may have thought about organic lawn care programs, as the word organic appears to be synonymous with safe. But you may also not really be clear on what “organic” means or if it even works when it comes to lawn care.

Choosing the wrong lawn care company could have negative consequences and that’s why it’s important to take the decision seriously. Not only do you have your family, pets, and local environment to worry about, but you also don’t want to wind up with a service that produces unfavorable results, or, maybe even no results at all. After investing a substantial amount of money into your lawn, you want to see a difference.

The answer lies in finding a trustworthy lawn care company that shares your similar goals. In order to do that, the process all begins with research.

Comparing Lawn Services in Cincinnati and Dayton, OH

Lawn company service area marker on mapWhile at the onset, these three companies may appear similar, as you start to compare their actual service offerings, that’s where some key differences are revealed.

It can get confusing comparing a bunch of different services. In order to make it easier, we’ve pulled out some of the key information you should examine.

A Quick Look at PureLawn

PureLawn in Dayton, OH has three different tiers in their lawn care program. They include the following.

  • Bridge: A blended program of both synthetic and organic-based fertilizers, spot-treatment of weeds, and pre-emergent crabgrass control.
  • PureGreen: A completely chemical-free program.
  • Custom: A crossover program, meaning you could do the Bridge program in the front yard and the following PureGreen in the backyard.

A Quick Look at The Organic Turf Company

The Organic Turf Company in Cincinnati, on the other hand, does not have a leveled program. They advertise a single “organic lawn service,” which may lead people to make the assumption that they are 100-percent chemical-free, when in fact they are not.

This organic lawn service makes mention to their “five-step process” on their program page. To be clear, these are not five individual treatments. They are five steps that they make when performing a service, but only one of those steps is actually some form of lawn treatment. It is unclear how many issues are being addressed on each visit.

In terms of the program, and what’s included, their “Comprehensive Application” is vague.

However, naming the company itself and its respective “organic lawn care program” could be leading many people to assume that The Organic Turf Company provides an alternative that would be different than most lawn care companies.

Even though their program is touted as being “organic-based,” the company does disclose right on their site that they do use some non-organic weed control for the reason “it works.” However, there are little details on this part of their approach.

A Quick Look at Oasis Turf & Tree

Oasis Turf & Tree van and employeeOasis Turf & Tree has three lawn care programs. These include:

  • Gold: All necessary lawn care services including organic-based fertilizer including bionutrion, pre-emergent crabgrass control, nutsedge control, weed controls even for tough weeds, grub control and insect control for pests like chinch bugs and billbugs.
  • Platinum: Everything that is included in the Gold level, plus core aeration.
  • Diamond: Everything that is included in Gold and Platinum, plus overseeding.

Service Similarities and Differences

In comparing Oasis to these other two companies, our program is most similar (but still with a crucial difference) to PureLawn’s blended program that uses both synthetic and organic-based products.

However, organic fertilizer alone is not the same thing as organic-based fertilizer with bionutrition, and that’s a key difference in our program. This unique approach focuses on soil health, which is the true secret to a healthy lawn. This process begins by introducing beneficial microbes to the soil throughout the year. It restores soil to the way nature intended it to be. It’s a crucial step well beyond just applying organic-based fertilizers and one most companies do not take.

Of course, we do also use some non-organic products because, just as The Organic Turf Company claims, they work. A 100-percent organic lawn care program (like PureLawn’s PureGreen program) is simply not going to be effective—and that’s the hard truth.

A lot of lawn care companies out there don’t want to admit that or skirt around the issue by claiming to be organic when they are not. But even a company like PureLawn, that does have a completely chemical-free option, still offers a hybrid approach program, probably because they know many clients won’t settle for subpar results.

A Note from the Oasis Turf & Tree Owner

Rob Reindl, owner of Oasis Turf & TreeWhen I (Rob Reindl) created the lawn program at Oasis Turf & Tree I started it with safety in mind. However, I also knew that the issue of helping our customers get the beautiful lawn they desired, required us to utilize non-organic materials to battle weeds and insects.

In order to truly reduce the needs of non-organic materials to a significantly lower level, we needed to go a step beyond the norm of just organic-based fertilizer, also incorporating bionutrition into our program. Organic fertilizer alone isn’t enough to get a lawn where it really ought to be, which is functioning the way nature intended. We want lawns that, over time, require less and less of these non-organic materials.

The result has proven to us and our customers, over and over, that this approach is the best of both worlds of safety and results.

The Organic Lawn Care Buzzword

A lot of companies like to use “organic” as a buzzword and may even offer fully organic programs knowing full-well that they aren’t going to be as effective as a hybrid program. Some lawn care companies want to get onboard the organic trend train and offer programs that are popular with customers—even if it’s not in their best interest. Frankly, without using bionutrion, it’s a marketing gimmick, and the vague program descriptions leave a lot of room for innaccurate interpretation.

It’s important to me and our team that we don’t compromise on what works, or even leave our lawn care program in the hands of our customers to decide what they need or may assume is the best for their lawn.
