If you’re looking for sales jobs in Cincinnati, Dayton, OH, and Northern KY, then you probably assume you need previous sales experience. That might be true at a lot of companies, but here at Oasis Turf & Tree, we care more about who you are as a person (and a team member) than your previous sales experience.
Most importantly, we’re looking for people who are motivated (“go-getters”), hardworking, and team players. These are people that are going to fit into our team-oriented culture. We also look for people who are great at working with our clients. These are “people persons” who care about providing excellent customer service.
We’ve actually found quite a few of these folks in the restaurant and hospitality industry.
In fact, we see sales as very much being like hospitality.
Someone who has been successful at serving tables or bartending is clearly a motivated person who works hard to make customers happy—as that’s what pays the bills. We love recruiting people from the hospitality industry as they very often have what it takes to be successful in sales.
We’ve also found a lot of success with folks who have come from other call center jobs, even outside of the lawn care industry. If you’ve worked in a warranty call center or with any other type of job along these lines, then you know what it takes to spend a lot of time on the telephone with clients.
At Oasis Turf & Tree, we take training incredibly seriously—and everyone starts at the beginning, whether you have sales experience or not. You could have a decade of sales experience somewhere else, be we still want you to learn our processes and systems. We always start fresh.
So, if you’re someone who is coming to Oasis Turf & Tree without a lawn care background, don’t worry, we’ll train you.
What doesn’t work is people who come into a new sales job already assuming they know everything and being resistant to training. We are seeking people for our sales jobs who have a willingness to learn as it might be different from the way you’ve learned somewhere else.
We’ve also found that what doesn’t work is when someone comes in bragging about their sales stats from another job. Every once in a while, during an interview, we’ll hear from a sales job prospect who just wants to tell us how much they’ve sold at a previous job. But we believe that selling is so much more than that.
It’s not that we don’t want you to be successful at selling here, but we aren’t looking for folks who just want to “hang their hat on numbers.” We are looking for folks who are great at relationship building and will really care about our clients. Through connecting with clients, we find that our team ultimately has the most success with sales.
Here at Oasis Turf & Tree, we are truly trying to help the homeowners that we serve. They have a problem, and we’re helping them to solve it. That is why we have so many long-term clients.
But it’s also why salespeople at Oasis Turf & Tree find their job rewarding. It can be difficult when you’re trying to sell clients a product or service that they don’t really need. But at Oasis Turf & Tree, clients have an existing problem (an unhealthy lawn), and we’re helping them fix it. That means our salespeople are actually making a difference in homeowners’ lives.
We find that when you put the client first, the numbers follow. But if you come in just talking about numbers, it makes us question your priorities. We certainly love some healthy and friendly competition, but the priorities still have to be in order.
