Setting Realistic Salary Expectations
The very nature of sales jobs is enticing in that the commission structure allows you some control over what you earn. The more sales you make, the more you earn. However, a lot of companies take advantage of this fact by sharing unrealistic earning potential in order to get fresh salespeople through their doors.
One sneaky way they might do this is to take the best sales week someone has had and multiply it by 52 to come up with an annual figure. But that ignores the fact that you’re never going to have your best sales week every week. Lawn care is also easier to sell at certain times of the year than others.
In reality, you don’t want to be constantly chasing a pipedream. You have expenses to pay and possibly a family to take care of and you need a realistic idea of how much you’ll really earn.
That’s why at Oasis we are honest about earning potential. We’re never going to promise you some outrageous number that you’ll quickly learn is never achievable. That’s not fair to you.
Conservatively speaking, most first-year salespeople at Oasis earn between $40,000 and $45,000.
However, you’ll also earn residuals. As long as a customer you brought in remains a customer, you’re earning ongoing commissions so long as you’re here. You can also start immediately earning money as soon as you close the deal and will continue to earn a steady flow of residual for years to come.
Realistic and Achievable Work Hours
In theory, the more you work, the more money you can earn. However, nobody wants to work all day and all night long. You have a life outside of work and as passionate as you may be about sales, you don’t want to work around the clock.
We’re realistic with people about hours, too. Obviously, since the majority of your pay is commission, you need to put in the hours to make money—and we’ll tell you that. But we don’t expect you to be working 24/7. At Oasis, we really believe in positive work/life balance. You’re at your best when you’re rested and happy.
Most of the year, our salespeople work an average of 40 hours. In the spring, that might be more like 50 hours. In sales, that’s really not that crazy and still leaves plenty of time for our team members’ lives outside of work.
It’s also worth noting here that unlike most sales jobs, where it’s “every salesperson to themselves,” we don’t have that lone wolf mentality here. We are truly a team and we help one another out. If someone calls in after you’ve left, and another team member takes the call, they’re not going to be out to steal your lead. That’s just not how we operate here. We all look out for one another.
