Even though it’s not something you might be considering, small micro-climate changes that happen on a regular basis are constantly affecting lawn care. Even the changing environmental conditions in other regions can ultimately impact us here.
Armyworms are a perfect example. Storms in other regions actually carried those pests into our area.
That’s why there will be some seasons in which we deal with certain issues…and then other seasons in which we don’t see them at all.
We wanted to take some time in this article to talk about why this is important and how as a company, we are staying on top of it.
It’s important to know that even small shifts in weather conditions and temperature can have a big impact on lawn care. We know that people expect that lawn care is mostly a constant thing. There are certain services that your lawn needs, and there’s nothing more to it than that.
But that’s not the case.
In reality, these evolving micro-climates create the need for an evolving lawn care program. We have to adapt to these changes, adjusting our programs accordingly.
We wrote an article on how rain, heat, and cold affect lawn care results, which is an example of what we’re talking about. Lawn care results are going to be different during periods of heavy rain, drought, and intense cold or hot weather. Sometimes, even if we do all the right things, the weather works against us.
In addition to adapting to evolving weather conditions, there are problems that are going to emerge from time to time that need to be addressed. As we mentioned, the Armyworm is a really good example.
That’s not a pest that we’d seen much in our region before. But in the summer and fall of 2021, it became a significant issue.
Now, the Spotted Lanternfly is looking to be a similar concern. It’s not a pest that we’ve seen until recently but it has made its way into our area.
The point is, there are always going to be pest problems that can emerge…and the same is true for various diseases.
This is why it’s so important that your lawn care company is keeping up with what’s new.
It’s very important that they are ready to handle challenges that arise, even when they are unexpected. The goal is always to be as proactive as possible, rather than reactionary.
All of this is why as a lawn care company in Cincinnati, Dayton, Oh, and Northern Kentucky, Oasis Turf & Tree is keeping up with what’s going on in other regions, even before it’s happened here.
We know that awareness of potential problems is critical…we can’t just wait until things start going wrong. We’re always looking to have a plan.
While you would like to think that all lawn care companies are staying up to date with the latest information, that’s simply not the case. It can be time-consuming and complicated and some companies simply don’t have the resources to keep up.
At Oasis Turf & Tree, we are frequently in touch with Ohio State University Extension and pay attention to the information that their professors are putting out. On top of that, we are also in regular touch with other independently owned lawn care companies around the country that discuss the challenges and struggles that they’re seeing in their area.
That helps us to have an idea of what issues could be coming and allows us to develop a game plan early on.
The way in which we handled Armyworms is a good example as our preparedness helped save a lot of lawns. We heard that not everyone fared so well and around that time we actually gained a lot of new customers because of it.
At the end of the day, it boils down to our willingness to provide a customized approach. There are a lot of companies that just execute the same plan no matter what. They might not even know how to do it any other way.
But at Oasis Turf & Tree, we’re evolving as we need to. It’s all part of giving you the peace of mind that you deserve. Rather than having to worry about any of this, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your lawn, knowing you’re in good hands.
