Do I Need a Full Lawn Care Program or Are Just a Few Treatments Good Enough?

5 min read

Over the years, we’ve gotten many questions in regard to the overall schedule for lawn care that we follow. We understand that it can be very confusing when different lawn care companies offer different lawn care program options (including those with different numbers of visits).

What’s right and how many lawn treatments are really needed? Can your lawn get by with just a few treatments throughout the season?

We’ll help to answer those questions and explain why we’ve determined six visits will help you get the best results.

Do I Really Need a Full Lawn Care Program?

We have always been fully honest and transparent in what we include in our lawn care program as well as why we have it set up the way that we do. We aren’t trying to incorporate lawn care visits or services that you don’t actually need. Instead, our entire program is strategically planned.

We know, going into the season, exactly how much nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium your lawn needs to perform its best. So, you might want to know why we divide the program into six treatments rather than trying to get all of those nutrients into just a few treatments.

We have found that six treatments are the ideal number of times for our highly trained lawn care technicians to come out and apply these products as well as keep a watchful eye on your lawn.

That latter part is important because lawn care problems can arise throughout the season that can negatively impact your lawn’s health (even when you’re giving the lawn everything that it needs). Issues like disease, pests, and added weed pressure can deter your best lawn care efforts.

When someone asks if they can just have four applications instead of six, that explanation above is one of the biggest reasons why we won’t do it.

By cutting those two treatments out, you’re now putting a three-month window in between our applications and during that time you won’t have a professional eye on your property, spotting problems early and preventing them from getting serious.

It’s easy to overlook how serious some lawn problems can be if you’re not experiencing them. But an undetected pest or disease could completely decimate your lawn, which could render an entire lawn care program useless.

If you truly want to let go of your worries, having that ongoing professional eye on your property is important. It goes hand-in-hand with the lawn treatments that your turf requires.

A Full Lawn Care Program Ought to Include Different Treatments at Different Times of the Year

Along with that, it’s also important to remember that lawns need different treatments at different times of the year, depending on what’s going on.

For instance, pre-emergent controls are applied at the very start of the season (ahead of germination) in order to prevent certain weeds from growing in the first place. In the early summer treatment we include surface feeding insect control and grub control to eliminate the potential for serious insect damage. The summer is also a time to take care of summer annuals and use specialty controls for nutsedge. As we come out of summer, the fall is the best time to get rid of broadleaf weeds.

As you can see, it’s important that a lawn care program includes different treatments at different times. If you were to apply just a few treatments during one part of the year, you could end up missing something important.

You should also know that each of these lawn care treatments builds upon the next. New clients occasionally ask us if they really need to keep investing in lawn care once they’ve gotten their lawn into great shape. But you wouldn’t stop going to the gym or eating healthy after you’ve gotten into shape. You know that you must continue to maintain those results.

It’s really the same with a lawn care program. If you drop your lawn care program or want to drop some of the treatments, those results are going to go by the wayside. All of that progress could be lost.

A Lawn Care Program that Gives You Peace of Mind

At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that you’re not just investing in having your lawn fertilized or your weeds treated. While we certainly do those things, what we’re really providing is peace of mind.

You just want to know that your lawn is going to continue to look and perform great because it’s getting everything that it needs.

We have designed our lawn care program with all of that in mind. Our program isn’t as focused on the number of visits as much as ensuring that your lawn is getting what it needs (including that watchful eye, scouting for problems).

Of course, while we are diligent about catching developing problems, we are also aware that issues can arise in between our visits. That’s why we also really value the open line of communication that we have with clients. If you spot an issue that has arisen since our last visit, we want to hear from you.

Together, we can achieve amazing lawn care results that will provide you with more enjoyment and appreciation for your property.
